123 Days

Wow! Time has been going by so fast. There are now only 123 days until St. George Ironman. This last month and a half have been pretty active. I finished the month of November with over 100 miles of running and over 100 miles on the bike. The first time I've ever done that. Then in December I ended up with about 60 miles running and about 270 miles on the bike. My running was down but my bike went way up. My swimming miles are getting progressively further each month as well. I did some swim intervals the other day of swim, pull and kick. I have to say that my kick is pretty pathetic. I was hardly even moving. I'm pretty much getting all of my speed from my pull. Just another thing that I can improve on.

Also during the holidays it seemed like there was always junk food around the house. And of course I had to eat it. So now I've got some extra baggage to burn off from the holidays. Christmas was fun though. I got some new running shoes (K-Swiss Konas pictured) to help burn that baggage. We got to play Santa for a needy family in our area. Our kids helped us with it and it was so much fun to see them get excited about helping others. I am so proud of them. Now with the New Year behind, the resolutions are all set and it's time to get serious and take advantage of every one of the 123 days that are left! You can also see all of my swim, bike, run workouts in detail on my facebook page.

SHAC Tri and St. George Marathon

Ok so a few things have happened since my last post. This past Saturday, Nov. 13th, I did my first triathlon with my new bike. It was the SHAC sprint tri and was a good learning experience. My swim is still a little slow. Then during my transition from swim to bike I couldn't get my jersey on. It bunched up on me so I took it off and put it back on and it was inside out. I left it that way because I didn't want to waste any more time. My bike ride felt really good and then I transitioned from bike to run and took of running. I got about 20 yards when I realized I forgot to put my number on so I ran back and got it and then headed out again. I felt good about my run as I finished my 3 miles in under 20 minutes. I finished 30 overall out of 350 and 6 in my age group out of 33. Here is a link to the results... http://www.milliseconds.com/participants/detail/806212114
I also participated in the St. George marathon in October. I ran good for the first 22 miles and then started to get dizzy from the heat and had to walk a little to get my balance back. Still ended up with my 2nd fastest marathon time. Here is a link for those result..

This week I've done a mile and a half of swimming and a 9.6 mile run. Nothing today because I got food poisoning yesterday afternoon and I've been weak. But I'm starting to feel better and should be back at it again tomorrow.

Time Flies

It's hard to believe how fast time goes by. There is only 1 more month until the St. George Marathon. I just got done with an 8.5 mile run this morning on the Ironman Marathon loop here in St. George. It took me 1 hour 11 min and 20 sec. Not a bad way to start off the day. I've also done a few rides on my bike here in the house using the trainer. I have to say that it is a lot more fun riding the bike on the roads. I've been doing some indoor rides though because Kristal has needed my help here at the house for the last couple of weeks. After the marathon there will be 7 months until the big day so training every day is going to be crucial. That is once I'm recovered from the marathon. Hope to see everyone at the marathon. It's going to be a great day.

New Bike and New Shoes

So after taking a month off of writing I'm back. This last month has been semi productive. Mostly in the running area. I am now 64 days away from the St. George Marathon. I've been running an 8.5 mile course that is part of the Ironman run. I sold my Honda Civic a week ago so that I would have the money for a bike to use in the Ironman. I bought my bike yesterday, a 2009 Felt S32, from a guy that used it in the Ironman this year. It is a tri bike and it came with a trainer, so I can set it up in the house on cold days and still get bike time in. I also bought some new running shoes yesterday since my old ones are worn thin on the padding. Just need to break them in now. My wife and I got a family pass to the Washington City Community Center since our membership at Gold's Gym expired. I was swimming at Gold's but now I'm using the WCCC. I went yesterday for the first time to lap swim and did three fouths of a mile. Every Tuesday and Thursday are going to be my swim days. My running partner Joel, and my swim coach Kristal both say they'll be there with me. Thanks everyone for your help and support.

Summer Games Triathlon

http://www.milliseconds.com/participants/detail/806009811
So here is the link for the Utah Summer Games triathlon results. I didn't have a very good swim as I was zig zagging through the lake and probably swam 1.5 miles instead of the 0.9 miles it should have been. It was a good learning experience. This week has been short on trainging as I played in the Summer Games 30 and over basketball tournament. The team I was on won the Gold medal. It was a pretty good weekend. Now it is back to serious training to get myself ready.

One for One

Well the Utah Summer Games started today for me with the 10k run (that's 6.2 miles for those that weren't aware). I set 3 goals for myself before the run even started. They were to finish in under 42 minutes, place in the top 20 overall, and finish top 3 in my division so I could get a medal. The race started up Cedar Canyon and was a downhill run almost the entire way. I started the first half mile with the lead pack then they started pulling away. I still ran that first mile in 5:38. That happens to be my fastest mile ever. Not the best idea with 5.2 miles still to go. I still kept a good pace for the rest of the run and finished in 39:44 (that's a 6:23 per mile pace). Goal #1 accomplished. I also finished 15th overall. Goal #2 accomplished. And I finished 3rd in my division earning myself a bronze medal for my first ever event in the Utah Summer Games. Goal #3 accomplished. So in the Summer Games I am one for one so far. It was an exciting, beautiful run down the canyon. Next up is the olympic distance Triathlon on the 19th. That one might be a little harder to medal in but I'll give it my best shot. All those 9 and 10 mile training runs paid off today. A big Thank You goes out to my running partner Joel who also ran today and finished with a personal best as well. Way to go Joel.

Utah Summer Games

Ok, so I've been slacking on my posts but I have been training. A big Thanks go out to my running partner, Joel, for helping me get out of bed in the mornings and go running. We've done several 8 and 9 mile runs. I've also done a few swims of basically practicing technique. I've also been playing quite a bit of basketball which is good for cross training. This is going to be a very busy month. On top of moving from one house to another I will be involved in the Utah Summer Games in several events. On the 11th is the 10k race. On the 19th is the Triathlon (olympic distance). Then the weekend of the 24th, 25th, and 26th I will be playing in the 30 and older division for basketball and also participating in the 400, 800, 1500, and 5000 meter races at the track. A fun filled month. Should be interesting.
